New Years Eve 2013

New Year's Eve has never been one of my favorite holidays.  We don't like to go out to celebrate because things are way overpriced, way too crowded, and I don't like to be on the roads knowing that lots of people have probably been drinking and driving.   For the last 3 (maybe 4) years we have opted to stay in, cook dinner, and watch the ball drop.  Typically, our friends Whitney and Brian have celebrated with us.  Since they had just delivered their baby girl about 4 weeks before new years, they weren't able to make the trek to Birmingham this year.  We were sad but totally understood.  Ben and I did get to celebrate with some of good friends in Birmingham though!  We love hanging out with this sweet family.  They have a daughter that is a little over 3 months younger than Mary Hyatt but they have so much fun playing together! Now that they are getting older it's especially fun to watch them interact.

We started off the night with a big dinner comprised of our greens and black eyed peas.  We made double what we needed so that we would both have leftovers to eat the next day on New Year's Day.  I promise our girls were dressed at one point, I just didn't take many pictures of them.  We had a cookie cake for dessert to celebrate Haley's birthday and that's when we decided to strip the girls down to their diapers.  We knew chocolate icing would be everywhere.  After eating, we let the girls have a little play time.  I love these sweet pictures!

We even worked on sharing! :)

At one point, Mary Hyatt pulled these baskets off of her shelf and got inside of it by herself.  Of course that prompted Jane Reable to do the same. haha Silly girls!
We got the girls dressed in their pj's and though it was way past their normal bedtimes they were actually both on their best behavior.
We stayed up until 12 o'clock eastern time (11 o'clock our time) to watch the ball drop in New York and then they headed home.  That was late enough for us!
It was a fun New Year's night with great friends. Can't wait for Whitney, Brian, and Baby O to join us next year!!
