Quick Update

Well, if I have any readers left (probably not), just wanted to check in and let you all know that we are still here!  This blog has unfortunately taken a ride in the back seat and will probably stay there for a little while.

As many of you know, we have actually made a huge move for our family.  We have moved away from Birmingham and back to our home town of Decatur.  Ben and I both grew up in Decatur and our families still live there.  While Decatur is a very familiar place for both of us, the move was still very difficult, emotional, and scary for me.

It all happened very quickly.  We kind of always thought we would move back eventually, but didn't think it would be for another year or two.  We weren't even really going to question it until next summer.  However. some opportunities unraveled very quickly and we just couldn't pass them up.

We ended up buying our first house.  The house itself is old and dated and far from beautiful to the eye right now, but we loved the location and the layout of the house.  It's on a nice corner lot right smack dab where we always said we would want to live if we moved back.  It's an added bonus that my sister lives literally about three houses down from us on the street behind us and Ben's aunt lives about three houses down on our street.  Nothing beats living near family! Though the house needs lots of work aesthetically (it hasn't been touched since 1967... you can only imagine!), it surprisingly is in great condition and has been very well taken care of.  It is much bigger than our house in Birmingham and has a very open floor plan which we love.  I hope to post pictures soon, and will definitely be posting about our progress as we complete renovations.  Ben and I (along with lots of help from my handy family teaching us along the way) plan to do most of the work ourselves.  Whew... makes me tired just thinking about it, but it will be fun right?!

I am currently working for the school system fulfilling maternity leaves for two different speech therapists.  Of course, this job is temporary and will end in February so I'll be on the lookout for something a little more permanent.  Ben is going to be working for his dads accounting firm in town.  Mary Hyatt has started her new school already and really seems to like it.  I am definitely liking this schedule a lot more because I get off early and am able to spend a little more time with her before the nightly routine of dinner-bath-bed chaos starts.

So, there you have it.  We have had lots of transitions over the last couple of weeks which would explain my blogging absence.  Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get a little bit more settled and will start blogging again. Until then, have a good week!
